Easy Knight Helmet

Easy Knight Helmet

45cm, 48-50cm, 52-55cm, 58cm, 60+cm
S, M, L, (adult, large adult)

4mm needles, 8ply yarn, 2 buttons.

Hat
Cast on 45, 50, 60 (70, 80).
Work in moss stitch until instructed.
Moss 2 rows.
*Work 1, work 2tog, pattern until last 3 stitches, work 2tog, work 1.
Moss 1 row*
Repeat last 2 rows for a total of 4, 4, 4 (5, 5) times, 37, 42, 52 (60, 70) stitches total.
Moss 1 row.
Sizes (adult, large adult) moss 2 more rows.
Cast on 42, 47, 47 (49, 49) = 79, 89, 99 (109, 119) stitches.
Join for knitting in the round.
Continue moss stitch for 5 rounds.
Change to knit and make 1 stitch (result will be an even number for decreasing).
Knit until hat measures 10.5cm, 11.5cm, 12.5cm (13cm, 13.5cm) including moss stitch over the forehead.
Place a stitch marker at the centre back to mark the start of each round for decreasing.
Sizes S, M, L
K8, k2tog, repeat for 1 round.
Knit 1 round.
K7, k2tog, repeat for 1 round.
Knit 1 round.
Continue in this way with a decrease round followed by a knit round.
After finishing with a round of k2tog, cut yarn and thread through the remaining stitches, tie off and weave in end.

Sizes (adult, large adult)
(k9, k10), k2tog, repeat for 1 round.
Knit 1 round.
(k8, k9), k2tog, repeat for 1 round.
Knit 1 round.
Continue in this way with a decrease round followed by a knit round.
After finishing with a round of k2tog, cut yarn and thread through the remaining stitches, tie off and weave in end.


Blade
Cast on 35, 40, 45 (50, 55)
*Knit 1 row.
Purl 1, p2tog, purl until 3 stitches remain, p2tog, purl 1. *
Repeat for a total of 6 rows.
29, 34, 39 (44, 49) stitches.
Purl 1 row.
*Purl 1, pbf, purl until 2 stitches remain, pbf, purl 1.
Knit 1 row. *
Repeat for a total of 6 rows.
35, 40, 45 (50, 55) stitches.
Fold work in half so the knit sides face out.
Knit both rows together by picking up one stitch from each row and doing a knit stitch.
Moss stitch for the remainder of the blade.
Moss 1 row.
Kfb, moss until 1 stitch remain, kfb.
Moss 1 row.
Kfb, continue in moss stitch, kfb twice more evenly along the row, moss until 1 stitch remains, kfb.
42, 46, 51 (56, 61) stitches.
Cast off in moss pattern.
Stitch closed the open ends, weave in loose ends.






Visor
K = knit, P = purl
X = purl instead of knit, or knit instead of purl (optional, adds ridges down the visor)
I = increase – knit (or purl) 1, kfb (or pbf), knit to last 2 stitches, kfb, knit 1.
D = decrease – knit (or purl) 1, k2tog (or p2tog), knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, knit 1.
CO = cast on, BO = bind off

The edges of the visor can be left as is, or pick up and knit 2 stitches for every 3 rows across the top, then bind off. Repeat across the bottom. Another option is to crochet the edge.


Weave in any loose ends. Attach the visor by stitching through the buttons to hold it in place. Stitch on the blade, leaving enough room at the front of the head so the visor can sit between the front band and end of the blade. Block the hat over a balloon or other round object.
